Workplace Ethics: Unprofessional Conduct BUS 309 Business Ethics Professor: Keith Graves August 23, 2013 Today, there seems to a big misconception of what professionalism means in and out the workplace. Many people go to work just to earn a living and that is fine however, when you hold a position of stature or prestige there are certain elements you must value to the profession as a teacher. â€Å"Professional teacher† refers to the status of a person who is paid to teach. They are supposed to represent the best in the profession (Tichenor, J M., 2005)†. Teachers are theoretically able to analyze the needs of the students for whom they are responsible. The word â€Å"professionalism† does not mean to just wear a suit and tie, or†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"Teachers are considered role models and with that being said should recognize that their conduct both on and off the job, can profoundly impact their professional image (Connecticut’s Teacher Education And Mentoring Program, 2012)†. Indulging in unethical behavior such as that should never h ave happen no matter what profession you are in. Pettit knew it to be an immoral act among society especially in the educational field. People consider marriage to scared and monogamous between two people with no outside interference or contact. Monogamous merely means no one is allowed to come in participate in any sexual activities other than your spouse and if so they are committing an affair, which is frowned upon also. But having multiple sexual partners while in a committed relationship is unorthodox and unethical. Pettit and her attorney believed that her outside views were not brought into the classroom and did not mirror in her job. And as a result, there was not any professionalism transpiring on the job. Granted, there is no evidence that establishes Mrs. Pettit to be unfit to teach because of her unconventional views. Her track record of being a remarkable educator is exceptional however she simply ignored the rules and regulations the State of California set as guidelin es for their teachers. Like any other organization, the government establishes rules and policies they feel is the up most important for their employees to adhere to. The State Should Abolish TN Ready In recent years the state of Tennessee has experienced many problems with their new standardized testing called TN Ready. The new TN Ready standardized testing is unbeneficial to students and teachers. In the best interest of students and teachers, the state should abolish TN Ready, and replace it with the ACT Aspire and the ACT. Ever since the fall of 2015, when TN Ready began, the state has experienced many problems, some of which still exist two years later. The original plan was to have students test online from the beginning; that was however halted, when the system students were using crashed. Since a new test in and of itself is hard eno ugh for teachers and students to learn how to do, the transition from TCAP to TN Ready should have been smooth from the get go, but it was not. The state should abolish TN Ready and move to the ACT Aspire for grades three through ten, and the ACT for grade eleven. The ACT Aspire, is a â€Å"system of assessments directly connected to the most used college entrance exam the ACT† (ACT). Roman Coliseum Essay 1. If I could be any one of the characters in the book The Outsiders, I would be Ponyboy because of his many good characteristics. He is intelligent which show by his good marks in school. He understands that its wrong to fight unless for self-defense. He is heroic; this shows by the fact that he ran into the burning church to save the children at the risk of his own life. Also, he has a bright future and many opportunities in his life because of his school grades and good-natured personality. These characteristics are what separate him from the other greasers and are also why I want to be like him. 2. It is five years after the worst week in Ponyboys life and many things have changed. Ponyboy has finished high school with top marks. He has quit smoking and is an all-star runner for the track team and was voted most likely to succeed. He has been offered several full scholarships to some of the best colleges in the country. Him and his brothers moved out of the city after Ponyboy finished high school and Darry decided to go to college. Ponyboy has learned that good things can come out of bad lives and has stayed gold. 3. I think the title of the book The Outsiders is a very good title considering the book itself. I think that the title described two people. I think Ponyboy is an outsider because hes not like the other greasers. He is not a hood because hes smart, level headed, and caring. Hes not tough like Dally because he picked up the glass from a bottle that he smashed. He also is one of the only greasers with a bright future; his education will take him far in life regardless of where he grew up. Also, Randy is an outsider. Randy is not like the other socials. He understands that fighting wont solve anything. He also doesnt hate all of the greasers just because everybody else does. He is a bright boy and finally understands that socials and greasers arent as different as people think. I think the title refers to them because they arent like the others in their group. 4. The person that said that had a very good meaning to what they said. They meant that if you fight you might lose others that you hold dear or possibly your own life. If you lose everyone that you hold dear then you get tough like Dally. Being tough is worse than dying because when you get tough you dont feel any emotions. Not being able to feel emotions is like being alive but not being able to live. I think this would be worse than dying because if you cant live then theres no point of being alive. 5. The few words Johnny wrote in the letter to Ponyboy had a great meaning hidden within. When Johnny said stay gold he meant that Ponyboy should try not to end up like the others and that Ponyboy had a future so bright that he was glowing. When Johnny asked Ponyboy to tell Dally that theres still lots of good in the world he was really asking Ponyboy to help Dally understand that the world isnt just like the streets of New York and that there are many good things in the world worth living for. These few words written by Johnny had a frighteningly large impact on Ponyboy because Johnny, with his last ounce of strength, wrote that note telling Ponyboy to keep going and Dally to keep living.
